The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, Key West Florida

For more than 10 years Earnest Hemingway made this house and town his home. The Nobel Prize winning author found comfort in the laid back life-style of the Florida Keys. If you're on a bus charter to the Key West area, plan a stop at this favorite Key West attraction.
Located at 907 Whitehead Street, the Hemingway Home was built in 1851. The house is still occupied by over 60 cats, some of which are direct descendents of the cats that lived with Hemingway. The famous five toed cats were a gift by a local ship captain and the family has been there ever since. Each cat has its own name and individual personality.
Hemingway moved into the house in 1931 and it still contains the furniture that he and his family used. The unique pool was the first residential swimming pool in Key West. The saltwater pool is surrounded by lush landscaping and is 9 foot at the deepest point. Built in 1938, the pool cost over $20,000; an enormous sum at the time.
The Hemingway Home and Museum has a souvenir shop and is opened 365 days a year, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Tours are given daily by knowledgeable guides. Group rates are available, in advance or at the gate. Its tropical setting and landscaping also make it perfect for a wedding, party or corporate affair. Plan your next special event at this historical house which has been host to some of the most famous authors and artists in the world.
